A Fresh New Family Room with Thomasville
Ever since we moved into our quaint family home, I've longed to create a special space where we can play, laugh, and recharge together. A space that's not only practical and functional, but comfortable and stylish. One of the many things we loved about this house was the second, more casual living space. It's situated perfectly by Meriwether's bedroom, and serves as her primary play area. Since moving in, this part of the house has seen a lot of action, but it's been outfitted with a revolving door of random furniture we had from previous homes (none of which met our current needs). However, I'm happy to report we can finally put those days behind us (!!) I'm so proud to have worked with Thomasville to bring our vision to life, creating a space that completely caters to our life as a young family who values comfort, function and style.
a little background...
Thomasville began in 1904 making furniture in North Carolina, recognized for superior craftsmanship and beautiful design. The pieces we chose for our family room reflect those qualities of their brand. Since inception, they've expanded their traditions of quality and excellence into their Thomasville Cabinetry line, which has me anxious to pull the trigger on some kitchen updates I've been wanting to do! To compliment their offerings, they have an array of tools and design resources to keep your project (of any size) inspired, organized, and on budget, which is a huge value when making plans. Check out their virtual design tools and online budgeting services if you're in the market!
it's all in the details...
The piece of furniture in this room that really made my heart skip a beat was this sectional. Not only do I love the clean lines and the dual chaise, but it has built-in storage (!!) You can lift both ends to conveniently store blankets, toys and books. If this isn't what dreams are made of, I don't know what is. It brings joy to my soul to be able to easily clean up clutter and toys in an instant (is my motherhood showing?) And that's not all - Carson and I both have our own designated movie spots on each chaise. I also added a floor lamp for a cozy reading spot. What more could you want?
the artwork
For a fun and inexpensive DIY, I had Meriwether create some textured, monochromatic artwork for this space. I loved the idea of providing a fun activity for us to do, that would simultaneously add to our family room in a unique way. I got some canvases and let her go to town with white spackling paste from our local hardware store. She used a plastic putty knife and her fingers to create the look, and I was shocked at how much I loved the end result. This little vignette is my favorite spot in the room, made complete with her artwork, a classic tiered end table, a brass lamp, and a vase of fresh green florals.
the rug
A soft, plush rug is a must when you have a toddler crawling, falling, jumping and walking. Some of the wool rugs I've had in the past would do a serious number on Meriwether's knees. I chose this rug with that in mind - it's perfect for comfortable play, yet neutral, and also adds a textured element. When we initially rolled it out, M started making carpet angels so instantly we knew it was a winner. These Sewing Down South x Thomasville pillows add yet another layer of comfort. We pull them out for watching movies, playing and relaxing on this plush area rug.
a new pair of slipper chairs...
I also chose a set of slipper chairs by Thomasville, creating another relaxing area to unwind together. I love slipper chairs for their versatility and function. You can put them side by side, creating a settee-like piece, or place a table in the middle like I did here. You can also put them at the end of a bed, perfect for putting on your shoes in the morning. When I first saw these, I enjoyed the contemporary shape of the back, along with the plush cushions and soft fabric (herringbone gets me every time). They make for a sophisticated, yet comfortable addition to our home.
Our family room is truly a space we love to be. We've spent practically every single night in here since we completed it. I can't tell you how much I've appreciated these pieces for their style, quality, functionality and comfort. Thank you so much for reading today's post, and a huge thank you to Thomasville for their partnership!
