Best Neutral Paint Colors

With all the moving we've done in and around Nashville, I've become quite well-versed in neutral paint colors. If you've ever picked out paint colors for a home, you know how overwhelming it can be. I've curated a small arsenal of options that always seem to perform. One of the questions I get asked most often when I share interior content is:

"What paint colors are in your home?"

In this article, you'll find the paint colors we have in our current home, as well as paint colors I love or have used in the past. I tend to naturally gravitate to warmer tones, however I do enjoy cool tones as well. It really just depends on the space and the lighting.

IN OUR CURRENT HOME...

Egret White (SW 7570) is the wall color in our current home here in Tennessee. I love that its a subtle "greige" and gives a touch of neutral color in every room. Of course, paint can look cooler or warmer in each space given the lighting, but overall this paint color has been one we've really enjoyed.

Pure White (SW 7005) is our trim color and I think it pairs great with our walls. It translates as a fresh bright white, although it does have a creaminess to it that compliments the grey/beige tones in Egret White.

You'll notice Alabaster has warmer tones to it, which is why I love it so much. I first saw this color in person years ago in my friend Moriah's home, and immediately loved it. So much so, that we used it when we painted the exterior of our current home and in our laundry room. What a different paint can make (see photo below of our house when we bought it). I've also recommended it to my mom and mother in law for both of their homes.

MORE GREAT OPTIONS...

Revere Pewter by Benjamin Moore is the exterior color I chose for my first house and is also the color on my current front door/shutters. It's versatile, but can sometimes translate a little muddy if you don't have a lot of natural light in your home. Obviously when using it outdoors on an exterior, there's plenty of natural light. In my first house I had tons of interior windows, so it was great on my walls!

I also love Revere Pewter for furniture. I have a chest of drawers in my guest room in this color, and I've loved it for years.

I'm dying to use Simply White in our house, also by Benjamin Moore. I'm thinking maybe for Meriwether's room or for our kitchen cabinets (maybe both). It's a soft white paint color with just a little bit of warmth. It has just a touch of yellow undertones so that it’s a warm white without being too creamy. It's quite possibly the most versatile of all whites because you can use it practically anywhere in the home. It’s a fresh, clean looking white without being stark, similar to Alabaster in that way.

Lastly, Sheep's wool is part of the Benjamin Moore Classic Color Collection, so you know it's good. A friend of mine told me about this color and it's a tried and true staple for her. Another one I need to try out in a room or two!

I hope this short list of neutral paint colors can help you narrow it down. I know it can be overwhelming to choose, but the good news is, its just paint!
