Organization Buys That Create A Calm, Happy Home

Last weekend, we ventured to IKEA and The Container Store to begin our goal of organizing all storage areas in our home. We decided to begin with the family room and our pantry, because those areas needed the most attention. There's something about opening a closet door or drawer and seeing organized bins and containers, where everything has it's designated place. Not to mention it keeps said items organized day after day, year after year. It's a calming, glorious feeling. On this post, I'm sharing the best items we purchased due to their functionality. What's more, you can easily build on their collections over time. Let's dive in.

the family room

I have to say, the KUGGIS storage solution from IKEA is wonderful, and most likely our favorite from anything we've seen. They come in a variety of sizes and with lids, making them perfect for stacking and nesting. The largest size is great for storing items like toys, books, movies, etc. We also got a handful in the medium size to store Meriwether's arts and crafts, small figurines and doll house furniture when it's not in use. We wanted some of the smaller ones, but unfortunately they were sold out in the store. We plan on ordering them soon! The entire line is great, and you can buy the individual sizes that are most suitable for your space. We measured the drawers in our TV console before we left to ensure a perfect fit!

The BRANÄS basket is a perfect fit for our KALLAX bookshelf that I've had for over five years. I love the warmth and texture of this basket and the added convenience of just throwing toys in when you're in rush!

I realize this is not a storage solution, but it's from IKEA and worth mentioning. This lamp looks good everywhere I put it, and for $20 -- you just can't beat it! We also got the floor lamp in the same style to put in our family room and I can attest, it's just as wonderful.

the pantry

The undisputed heroes in our pantry are these convenient stackable drawers and the OXO storage containers that keep everything fresh. They make perfect use of the space between each of our pantry shelves. Both The Home Edit Collection and the OXO POP collections seemed to have the best selection across all categories, but I wanted to switch things up and used some items from IKEA as well. You should purchase based on your own pantry staples and organizational needs. My biggest tip would be to make a list of everything you're looking to contain before you go shopping or order. I decided to only buy specific containers for things that are always in our pantry, and I bought storage baskets for the other items that change. I placed the baskets on the bottom shelf, so you can see in while creating a uniform appearance upon entry. See everything we ended up purchasing for our pantry below!

Clearly, everyone's needs are different when it comes to storage, but these items have become fast favorites in our house! Surprisingly, I don't have any regrets thus far. Don't hesitate to reach out if you have a specific question!
