Salt Box: A Harbour Island Hideaway

Salt Box: A Harbour Island Hideaway

I'm not sure what we anticipated of our stay at Salt Box, but what we experienced was idyllic. When we arrived, an unassuming village cottage stood before us, tucked behind dozens of vibrant, tropical blooms. As we made our way through the historic home, noting the thoughtful details and old-style charm, we discovered the sprawling back lawn. With perfectly appointed landscaping, saltwater swimming pool and guest cottage, we felt as though we'd entered a private oasis all our own. A hidden treasure, concealed from the rest of the world. Over the next week, we would seamlessly and conveniently rest, relax, and enjoy making lifelong memories as a family.

historic 1820's cottage ―

Salt Box is an 1820's island home that showcases the work of architect Kiko Sanchez with interiors by designers Amanda Lindroth and Tom Sheerer. The main house features two bedrooms downstairs and a beautiful turquoise loft upstairs. I really enjoyed observing the thoughtful design details and décor selections throughout the home. The principal kitchen with the original 1820's fireplace was a treat. The space was quaint and efficient for preparing meals and we absolutely loved the open air concept of the screen doors and windows. We also enjoyed taking advantage of the large, family-style table off the main house for breakfasts each morning.

pool and guest house ―

Unsurprisingly, swimming was one of Meriwether's favorite things, and she swam to her heart's content every day. Her routine consisted of waking up, promptly putting on her swimsuit and jumping in! I loved how convenient it was to the guest cottage where Madeline could nap peacefully. We closed the blue shutters, creating a perfectly dark room, ideal for infant napping. The host had a travel crib, highchair and sound machine on hand which was so helpful. The guest cottage, complete with a bathtub and outdoor shower, was perfect one-level living for us and our two young girls.

The sprawling back lawn proved to be a treasure trove of entertainment. Our oldest daughter enjoyed hunting for bananas, coconuts, shells and rocks. She chased the friendly roosters around the property and happily fed them the crust from her peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. She loved the pretty flowers and laying in the sun on the lounge chairs. The second large outdoor table and meal prep area, located on the porch of the guest cottage, was perfect for al fresco dining in the evenings. We also enjoyed breaks from swimming and eating our lunches in the open air overlooking the pool.

island highlights ―

It was our first time traveling to the island, but due to the amazing location of Salt Box, we quickly became familiar with the charm that draws visitors from all over the world. It was a vibrant, quaint island with beautiful beaches, a kind community, incredible food and loads of history. The convenient amenities offered at the house and the history of Harbour Island quickly had us wanting to plan our next visit!
