Let's Talk About Denim ―

Outfit Details: Tee, Trench (similar here & here), DenimFlats

In recent years, I've switched over most of my denim to a classic, high-rise straight fit. I find the proportions to be most flattering and comfortable. I love wearing them with flats and tennis shoes for easy, everyday wear. On today's post I'm sharing my go-to pairs I love and wear most. Over the years, I've curated a good selection of denim for maximum versatility.

In some cases I'll go for good quality, less expensive pairs and take them to be altered. This way, they fit my body perfectly and I love wearing them. I think it's well worth an extra $15-$20 to really enjoy them. Alterations are something I've come to accept and expect, as I'm not model measurements. I included alteration information below each pair if I've had them adjusted (not every pair needs altering). I prefer jeans to hit just above the ankle, as it's undoubtedly the most flattering, so I usually get them hemmed or taken in an inch or two at my waist, if necessary.

As always, you can reach out with any questions regarding fit or styling in the comments below or over on Instagram!

dark wash

The 501 silhouette has been manufactured since 1873. They're sturdy and have that vintage feel I love. The dark wash is my most worn pair, but they're offered in an array of washes. I went with my true size which is a 28 (I'm 5'8" 140lbs). They do feel snug at first, but give a bit with wear.

After a time or two through the wash, I got mine hemmed to show a bit of ankle. Obviously this depends on your own personal preference of fit and length. They offer two different length options, so if one of those works for you, leave them be! I went with the longer length and had them hemmed to hit at the exact length I love, which has been completely worth it for me.

cropped light wash

I get asked about these all the time. I call them my weekend jeans, even though I reach for them weekdays too. There's just something about them that feel so casual and comfortable to me. When I got them in, I cut along the hem for a raw edge that I love. Once cut, I put them through the wash so they would fray a bit more.

For sizing, I went with my true size which is a 28 (I'm 5'8" 140lbs). They're a sturdy, thicker denim and they do give with wear. On my particular body type, I often have a waist gap in my denim (which comes in handy if we enjoy a big meal haha). These have a slight gap on me, but I love the way they look through the leg, the wash and the feel, so it's fine by me. I'm thinking of ultimately taking them to get altered in the waist, but I've had them for a year now and wear them constantly as is.

cropped faded black

I love the dimension of a faded black jean with a true black top, so I bought these and have loved them for the last few years. One specific thing to note, be aware of the length when ordering, as these are cropped! With my personal measurements I always go with the longer option and adjust from there, as needed. Keep in mind, the length will shrink a tad if you dry your denim.

I went with my true size which is a 28 (I'm 5'8" 140lbs). They're a sturdy denim and they do give a little bit as you wear them. I love the high rise and button fly on the 501's. I wear this particular wash most in the Fall/Winter seasons with tennis shoes and boots. The casual wash looks great with a structured shirt jacket or coat.

vintage blue

I find myself reaching for the light wash most in the Spring and Summer seasons, but I also love pairing them in the Fall/Winter with classic navy sweaters and coats. I started buying these jeans a few years ago and have since purchased them in several washes. I love the fit so much! They're modern, classic and comfortable denim.

For sizing, I can do either a 27 or 28 depending on how I'm feeling that day. Sometimes I just want a little more room, you know? I'm 5'8" 140lbs. I always order the regular length, which after washing is a nice ankle length on me. If you're concerned about sizing, refer to the garment measurements as I've found them helpful!

bone

I started buying these jeans a few years ago and have since purchased them in several washes. I love the fit so much! They're modern, classic and comfortable denim. I find myself reaching for the bone wash year-around. Because they're an ivory color, you can easily wear them with winter whites.
