A Guide To Chic Gardening

OUR GARDENING ADVENTURE BEGAN...

two years ago in our little Nashville townhome

We were waiting for Meriwether to arrive, and our lives had slowed down quite a bit. We enjoyed staying home and really started to take advantage of the simple pleasures life offers. Carson found some old pallets on the side of the road and decided to build a standing planter box for our patio. We ended up planting our first kitchen garden.

While I've enjoyed caring for plants most of my life, growing food was something I'd never done before. Biggest shoutout to my mom who still has my spider plant I grew from a seed in Kindergarten haha

Carson did the majority of the work in our townhouse era, although I enjoyed the daily watering and watching the seeds grow over the Spring and Summer months. Then and now, watering our plants has become a part of my morning routine, which serves as a moment of quiet time for me before I get the day started. It's quite rewarding and satisfying to consistently nurture the seeds and see them transform over time.

It's actually pretty miraculous to watch, and makes you appreciate food in a new way. We were able to grow corn, carrots, lettuce, green beans, strawberries and a few herbs. Just a little bit of each. We started a new kitchen garden this Spring and we're excited to get everything situated so we can transfer the sprouts outside. For now, they're living above my sink on the windowsill.

Around the same time, in our little townhouse, Carson gifted me a climbing rose bush...which we ended up transplanting to our current home. After all this time, I'm attached to my rose bush so I'm not sure what we'll do if we move again. I can't believe how much it has grown over the last few years. It's about to burst with blooms and I can't wait (!!)

In addition to my deep love of garden roses, I've recently enjoyed caring for two Gardenia trees. Every time I step out of our front door, their fragrant flowers fill the air. I look forward to looking after them and taking in the sweet smell of their blooms. There's absolutely nothing like it. I kept them in pots on our front porch, because they do best in warmer temperatures (around 65-70 degrees). I'll have to bring them in when it turns cold and place them by a window, which I look forward to. I think that's an essential key to successful gardening. Love what you plant. You'll be more invested that way.

In addition to loving what you grow, having chic gardening accessories makes it even more fun. I can't tell you how much I love my aged terracotta pots. That sounds absolutely ridiculous, but it's true! And my gardening hat I just got...I can't wait to get outside and wear it. *Psst...if you end up ordering the hat too, I have a friends & family discount of $40 off (I'm sure it expires at some point). Just follow the link here.

When I have the right equipment that also happens to be aesthetically pleasing, it just makes it that much more enjoyable. When you look good, you feel good, right? I've gathered up all the pretty gardening things we love to use, and put them in one place for convenience...
